Are Your Students Bored with Stickers and Stamps…Try Smellys
To reward your students, try smellys. Students love smellys. Smellys are when you put a happy face on the back of a child’s hand using scented chapstick or the like. If you have several flavors of chapstick, students will want all of the flavors on their hand. For example, if you have banana, cherry, and chocolate, students could progressively gain all of the scents during a day for their good behavior to accumulate the scent of a banana split.
Oh wow – what a fun and creative new idea. I would be quite nervous to even try it, but I bet they would love it. Do you use it often?
I have never personally tried this, but one of my former colleagues who taught second grade used smellys and the kids absolutely loved it. She did this in lieu of stamps on the backs of the students’ hands because the parents were complaining about students coming home with stained hands from stamps. By the end of the day students would end up with several flavors if they were rewarded…similar to the banana split idea. Thanks for commenting.
