If you perhaps do not follow the news about education, now is definitely the time to start. California has recently adopted a new law to include gay history in their social studies classes. The premise for teaching gay history is to allow students to understand that gays did not just arrive on the scene in 1969, but have been influential throughout history. This infuriates me because homosexual discrimination is being compared to race and gender discrimination. Sex is an ACTION, however race and gender just are what they are without action. Not to mention why do I need to know about someone’s sex life if someone contributed to history. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, Harriet Tubman led slaves to freedom on the Underground Railroad, Albert Einstein created the theory of relativity, but I have no idea if any of them were even married for that matter. I do know, however, what they contributed to society, and I don’t care what their sexual preference was! What will you do when your state adopts the same laws…after all it is only a matter of years before the thinking of lawmakers in California creeps into the rest of the nation. To inform yourself I strongly suggest read more about this law here.
