Free AMI Famous Failures and Animals (by student request)

Here is what I posted this week for enriching activities for my students. You are welcome to copy and paste this for your own students!

FAMOUS FAILURES

  1. Read about these famous failures:

Michael Jordan
I’ve missed more than nine thousand shots in my career. I’ve lost almost three hundred games. Twenty-six times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.
Michael Jordan from this Nike commercial

Steve Jobs
I was a very public failure… I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.
Steve Jobs, 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech

J.K. Rowling
You might never fail on the scale I did, but some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.
J.K. Rowling, Harvard Commencement Speech

Failure can be positive and negative. Think of some examples.
Failure can lead to success. When have you seen this happen?
Successful people experience failure. Do a Google search and find another example besides the ones above. Remember your example so you can share it on Friday.
Discuss these ideas with your parents.

ANIMALS

Watch these videos about endangered animals. Which animal is your favorite and why? Which animal do you feel you would most likely be able to help? How would you help them not become extinct?
